Supporting Your Journey

About Azimuth Social

Azimuth Social was born from a simple but powerful question: Where do young adults with intellectual disabilities go to build friendships and have fun once the day program ends? Created by parents who wanted age-appropriate, safe, and meaningful social opportunities for their son, Azimuth Social offers evening and weekend gatherings that foster connection, joy, and belonging. From movie nights to dances and group outings, Azimuth Social supports vibrant social lives rooted in choice, inclusion, and community.

Azimuth Core Values

Self-Direction & Purpose

We believe every person has an inner compass. Our role is to support choice, agency, and self-advocacy, never to define someone’s future for them.

Respect & Dignity

We see people first. Every member is treated as a capable individual with unique strengths, aspirations, and perspectives.

Growth Through Experience

Learning happens by doing. We emphasize real-world skill-building, exploration, and reflection over rigid or one-size-fits-all programming.

Inclusion & Belonging

Community matters. We foster environments where individuals feel safe, valued, and connected to peers, mentors, and the broader world.

Empathetic Support

Support should be meaningful, coordinated, and forward-looking. Our services work together to help members make steady, confident progress.

A Note From Our Founders

Azimuth was born from a place many families know well—the desire to see your child truly understood, valued, and supported as they grow into adulthood. As parents of a young adult with intellectual disabilities, we reached a point where existing options no longer reflected who our son is or what he needed at this stage of his life. We wanted more than a place to go; we wanted a community with purpose, connection, dignity, and age-appropriate opportunities that respected him as a 20-year-old.

Azimuth exists because families deserve choices that honor the whole person, not just a diagnosis. Everything we build—Azimuth Club, Azimuth Social, and Azimuth Foundation—are shaped by lived experience and guided by the belief that young adults with intellectual disabilities deserve meaningful days, vibrant social lives, and access to opportunity without unnecessary barriers.

Alongside parent founders, Azimuth is also shaped and spearheaded by leaders who have spent their professional lives working in the intellectual and developmental disability field. Through years of direct service, program development, and systems-level work, they have seen firsthand the gaps that exist as individuals transition into adulthood, particularly the lack of age appropriate, engaging, and socially meaningful options resulting in this community call-to-action response. Their experience brings a deep understanding of best practices, compliance, and quality support, strengthening Azimuth’s ability to turn lived experience into sustainable, well-designed programs. As professionals in the field, they saw an opportunity to provide quality wrap-around services for an under-served population.

“Our hope is that Azimuth feels like a community where individuals are supported, families are heard, and young adults are empowered to move forward with confidence, direction, and belonging.”
